Position Description

We are currently accepting applications for an Assistant Family Teacher in Rhode Island. The Rhode Island Boys Town homes are located in Aquidneck Island near Newport, RI in a beautiful affluent community near the beach and woods.

Assistant Family Teachers work in conjunction with an assigned Family Teacher Couple, who are responsible for and/live with 6-8 At-Risk youth (male or female). The treatment team works with the youth on their individualized treatment plan in daily interactions in the home, during outings, church, sporting events etc by modeling/teaching appropriate behaviors and morals. The Assistant Family Teacher must be mature, responsible, and have a strong interest in working with At-Risk Youth. This is a shift position working 45 hours a week. (This is NOT a live-in position). Typical hours are 2:30 PM to approximately 10:30 PM during the week. Must be able to work 2 weekends per month, one being an overnight weekend.

Job Qualifications:

Requires a HS diploma or equivalent, with some college credits or degree preferred

Initially can not be enrolled in college courses due to focus/training in new position

Must be 21 years of age or older

Possess a valid drivers license with a good driving record

Ability to work afternoon/ evening hours, generally 2:30pm to 10:00pm with a strong possibility of working (alone) two weekends a month including overnights.

Willingness to work flexible hours in order to assist the Family-Teaching Couple with youth and home activities.

Ability to attend church services the same or different than your own faith (monitor/support the youth during designated services)

Passing extensive background check to include: validating driver's license and evaluating an individual's driving record, e.g., DUI, reckless driving, moving violations, and at fault accidents. Background checks will also include: employer, criminal background checks, abuse registrary/offenses.

Passing drug test and TB test

Compensation Package:

Two weeks of paid training provided on the Boys Town Model in Omaha, NE

Hourly rate: $12.78 (in Portsmouth RI) plus overtime
